How You Can Become a Reptile Foster Home
What are Reptile
Foster Homes?
Reptile Foster Homes are like Forgotten Friend's satellite
rescues when we have more reptiles than we can handle. These foster
homes are made up of caring folks who take in rescued reptiles
temporarily
while we line up homes for them. This could take a few days
or
weeks, or possibly months. Foster homes should be with experienced
owners, because some of the reptiles these homes will work
with may not always be friendly, or need a little extra T.L.C.
(that they may not have gotten in their first home). We currently have a need for foster homes to temporarily take in large, aquatic, or venomous reptiles.
How do Reptile Foster Homes help Forgotten Friend?
At
Forgotten Friend we have huge hearts for reptiles. But let's
face it - having a heart for reptiles doesn't mean we have
a couple acres and a seperate building to house them in.
The truth is most of the rescue animals we work with are housed
in a dedicated reptile room in our home. And when our reptile
room fills up, we are forced to turn away reptiles that need
our help. That's why we're always on the lookout for caring
owners who would consider becoming Reptile Foster Homes.
When we have good homes we can call on to take in "overflow" reptiles
for us, we never have to turn any reptile away.
What's the benefit of being a foster home?
Before
we get you too excited about signing up as a foster home, I should
mention the tough parts. Taking care of new animals
can be a lot to learn, and a lot of time and responsibility.
It may also require a lot of room too, since the animals
we
don't have space for ourselves are usually (but not always)
a little bigger (iguanas, big snakes, lizards and turtles,
etc). It can also be hard to say goodbye to your foster reptiles
once we find permenant homes for them. The great part though,
is that you will get a chance to work with a variety of reptiles
that you otherwise may never get the chance to experience
up close. Not to mention the fact that you'll be part of
a great cause, and getting first-hand experience with reptile rescue.
Ready to sign up?
If being a reptile foster
home sounds like a great way for you to get involved in reptile
rescue, there are two ways to sign
up:
- To hear about foster opportunities through the rescue, start by entering your email below. The next time we have adoption or fostering opportunities, you can be the first to know!
- If you'd like to hear about foster opportunities outside
of the rescue, please list yourself as a reptile rescue
home on our Reptile
Adoption Forum. This is a public forum to
let anyone know you're out there when they need to give
up a reptile.
